RUTHERFORD (Sept. 2, 2010) — The Rutherford Labor Day organizing committee has announced the line-up for entertainment that will be at the event. At the Hutzel Memorial Band Shell in Lincoln Park, String Theory will perform from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; followed by The Rum Runners (Jazz Trio) with Ashley Pettet singing from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; and the Kootz Band from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Top StoriesLabor Day Street Fair to feature return of cardboard castle

RUTHERFORD (Aug. 26, 2010) — Standing tall with his long, bushy beard, Bob Joerger looks like a man who may have been called on to protect a castle in a past life. At first, he appears rather out of place — roaming through the hallway of the Rutherford Cooperative Day Nursery into the gymnasium of the Presbyterian Church with paint splattered over his clothes. With his faithful dog “Bo” (short for “Roshambo”) at his side, he laughs heartily while revealing what he’s working on. A castle — roughly 15 feet high — made entirely out of cardboard boxes.

RUTHERFORD (Aug. 5, 2010) — In 1983, when Mary James, an at-home mother in California, decided she was tired of being alone at home, she wanted to meet other at-home mothers and find other at-home children for her children to play with. When she discovered there were no other organizations that met during the day and allowed her to come with her baby and preschooler, she decided to start a brand new organization, and the MOMS Club was born. MOMS stands for ‘Moms offering Moms support.’

RutherfordLabor Day Festival set for Rutherford

RUTHERFORD (Aug. 5, 2010) — The Borough of Rutherford and Rutherford Downtown Partnership will jointly host the 35th-annual Labor Day Street Fair Monday, Sept. 6.

It’s hard to believe but this event just keeps getting bigger and better every year. In addition to the 100-plus antique dealers that line Park Avenue, and the numerous craft vendors that overflow the Williams Plaza onto Glen Road and Franklin Place, there will be: food vendors on Park Avenue, local community groups, live music at the Lincoln Park band shell, the lawn of the Presbyterian Church, and new this year will be live music inside the Presbyterian Church chapel.

Things to DoBoiling Springs to hold food drive

RUTHERFORD (July 22, 2010) — Boiling Springs Savings Bank is holding its annual food drive to benefit the New Jersey Center for Food Action with collection areas in all of its 17 branch locations. The collection has begun and will continue until Friday, Aug. 13.

The New Jersey Center for Food Action is a nonprofit agency that provides assistance to New Jersey individuals and families who are experiencing financial hardships. The organization is also the founder of the NJ Anti-Hunger Coalition, which serves as a clearing house for information on hunger and poverty in our state and carries out anti-hunger advocacy on behalf of those in our state who are living in poverty.
