New Poll: Are you happy Xanadu did not open this month?

Breaking News

(Nov. 14, 2008, 12:05 p.m.) — The Meadowlands Xanadu complex was supposed to have its grand opening this month, but instead developers pushed back the opening date until summer 2009. If the original schedule had remained, local residents would currently be facing the potentially positive and negative consequences of the mega-mall.

We'd love to hear your opinion on the matter.

Vote in the new poll from The Leader: Are you happy Xanadu did not open this month?

Xanadu was conceived when the economy was booming. Now, years later, it is near completion and unable to attract tenants I believe for 2 reasons: 1) Economy 2) It may be just to wierd for retailers to feel confident about leasing space.
I predict that they will end up making it something else. What exactly, I am not sure...but you can bet that retail is going suffer as a result of this economic downturn. With so many people losing their jobs, tightening credit, declining house values, rising taxes, not many people are going to be able to afford to go to Xanadu. Perhaps the building would be better suited as a soup kitchen to serve the soon to be homeless and destitute.

I think it's great... (Score: 0)

Well, I am 22 years old and in college first off. However, I have been looking forward to the opening day ever since I first heard about it. I live in the area and I think it will bring great things to the local communities. I can't wait for it to open and I wish it was open now so I would be able to enjoy it over my christmas break. I hated the colors at first but honestly, I think that all of them together blend in very nicely. Also, think about the amount of income that it will inject into the economy. People from all over the world will be coming to visit it and I am sure it will be a great boost. I do agree about the traffic situation, it will be a nightmare. However, I do commend the developers and whoever else is involved with the improvements currently being made to the infrastructure. I think the train station will help to allieviate some of the congestion.

its a huge eyesore disguised as another mall..
who designed this ugly thing?? it looks like a cross between a sample board and a retro airport. The colors & stripes are offensive and dizzying to the eye...
and wait until you see all the traffic & crime its going to bring to the area.

I see they are advertising Xanadu in other states as a tourist attraction, but what they should do be doing is advertising in other countries. With such a weak dollar the revenue will most certainly come from them rather than us. And perhaps they will appreciate the rather dizzying, psychodelic decor that's been lost on most locals.
