EAST RUTHERFORD (Sept. 9, 2010) — The East Rutherford Historical Society and East Rutherford PTA will sponsor a McKenzie School 100 year celebration Friday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. All current and former students, parents, faculty and administration are invited to attend the celebration.

The event will include a DJ, free food, lemonade and jumpie rides for the children. Additionally, a history of William McKenzie and McKenzie school will be presented. A time capsule is being created to commemorate the event that will buried at the site with a marker for future generations to unearth.

Your picture could be one of those put into the time capsule. You could be there 100 years from now when the time capsule is opened with your picture in it from 2010.

RUTHERFORD — The Rutherford Cooperative Day Nursery will sell the Bergen-Passaic edition of the 2010-2011 Kidstuff Coupon Book through December. The coupon book is $25 and provides discounts for numerous retail, dining and leisure establishments throughout northern New Jersey. Other counties can be ordered for the same price. RUTHERFORD — Rutherford Engine Co. 2 will host an open house Saturday, Sept. 11 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mortimer Avenue firehouse. Children and adults will be able to enjoy a fire truck display, demonstrations and fire prevention presentation guest speaker Bergen County Fire Marshal Bryan Henning. Information will be available for people interested in joining the Rutherford Fire Department. Please come Sept. 11 and enjoy an afternoon with the members of Engine Co. 2.

EAST RUTHERFORD — East Rutherford Seniors will hold its next meeting Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. — socializing and bingo to follow — new members  60+ welcome to join. Exercise classes are held at the center, every Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Every Thursday, senior members meet at 1 p.m. to socialize, play bingo and cards. Tickets ($36) still available for Italian Festival Sept. 15, with luncheon and show. Call Barbara at 201-438-6595.
