The Leader / Staff Report

NEW YORK (Oct. 14, 2009) — “Nightmare: Vampires,” which is currently playing a limited engagement at the NOHO Event Center (623 Broadway, by Houston and Mercer streets in New York City), is scaring up a storm for unsuspecting audience members.

Looking for a good scare? Want to know about the history of the most famous vampires to haunt the world? Looking for a place to have a drink and even score a free one after the show? Do you want to have your own séance? Looking for live actors that know how to put the fright in frightening?

Then “Nightmare: Vampires” is your place this Halloween season for a terrifically horrific time.

The brainchild of Timothy Haskell, a purveyor of putrid delights if ever there was one, “Nightmare” is an annual feast of gore for tri-state residents. The premise of this year's haunted house begins with the Museum of Vampyric Artifacts (MoVa), the self-ascribed first vampire museum featuring antiquities related to vampires from headlines, the media and around the world.

The experience of the museum is interesting, if not terrifying. It proves to be an informative aside that gives some background on the haunts to come.

I won’t tell you what happens toward the end of the museum tour, but it’s scary and will catapult you into the more traditional haunted house part of the attraction.

An added bonus is “Nightmare 666,” a warped magic show of sorts that will leave you with a few laughs and goosebumps.

The entire “Nightmare” show is co-presented by Psycho Clan and runs through Nov. 7.

“Nightmare: Vampires” tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door. A limited number of “Line-Buster VIP” tickets (instant entry and gift bag) are available for $60. For more information, visit www.nightmarenewyork.com or call 212-352-3101. Discount tickets are available for weekdays. Visit the above Web site for more information.
