Rutherford's Witmyer is key in Rock The Park

By W. L. Bill Allen Jr.
Special to the Leader

RUTHERFORD — Walking past the doors of The Fun Ghoul costume and stage makeup shop on Park Avenue in Rutherford, one would be hard-pressed to tell that, behind those innocent looking doors, lurks what may just be the next big concert production and promotions empire in northern New Jersey.

While long-time Rutherford business owner Cliff Witmyer has always been associated with the Rock Music scene, he and his production company, Cliffhanger, now seem to be ready to take the next big step in that world.

Sunday, Aug. 21, will find Witmyer and Cliffhanger running the latest WDHA-FM Rock The Park Concert at Yogi Berra Stadium on the campus of Montclair State University.

Community leader Vic De Lucia will be missed by all

By Cindy Capitani
Editor-in-Chief

RUTHERFORD — S. Victor De Lucia, 69, died Friday, Aug. 12, at the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on April 10, 1936, he lived in Rutherford and Franklin Lakes before moving to Wyckoff 10 years ago.

De Lucia leaves behind beloved family members, close friends and a lot of community roles that many say will be hard to fill.

“Vic left an indelible mark on the borough, and he will be missed,” said Rutherford Mayor Bernadette McPherson. “He was an important person in the fabric of Rutherford. He’s always been devoted to the borough and guided by the best interests of the borough.”

Come sail away

Allison Seaman of Rutherford took the heavy rains of Sunday, Aug. 14, in stride and set sail on a blow-up raft down St. Clair Avenue and Beech Street in Rutherford. Mother Nature dumped buckets of rain on the area, causing flooding in all the usual hot spots on Route 17 and in the industrial areas in the Meadowlands.
