Baby Bulldogs 8's take Lyndhurst tourney title


RUTHERFORD — Prior to winning a district crown and a state section title as an 11- and 12-year-old Little League team this summer and back-to-back district championships in the 9- and 10-year-old bracket before that, Rutherford’s current crop of outstanding young baseball players began their string of successes by winning the Lyndhurst Invitational Tournament as 8-year-olds in 2002.

Lyndhurst posts three big wins before being ousted

LYNDHURST — In spite of the fact that the season ended more with a whimper and less with a bang, the Lyndhurst Post 139 American Legion Baseball League team did have some big playoffs games triumphs along the way.

After winning its first two NJ District 1 State Tournament games in Denville, Post 139 was topped in the winners bracket final by Wayne on Monday, July 25, but rebounded to earn a berth in the State Finals Tournament by edging Cranford on Tuesday, July 26, prior to winning its first two tilts in the finals at Breslin Field.

Local baseball teams travel to Maryland

Lyndhurst and Wallington high school baseball teams recently traveled together to play a BCSL National Division game in Aberdeen, Md., at the magnificent “Cal Ripken Stadium.”

Lyndhurst baseball coach Frank “Butch” Servideo got Wallington baseball coach James Kondel Sr. to agree to make the trip. Both have been friends and rivals over the years coaching in the BCSL. The long-time coaches agreed it would be a great and memorable experience for their student-athletes.
